Use Study Groups¶
Tip
Study Groups are used to group together multiple studies. This is useful because multiple studies are able to "inherit" and use the same information. Information inherited:
-
Timelines - all studies in the group can have and use the same timeline events
-
Linked Entities - a group of entities can be interested in a whole group of studies, so can be quickly linked to all
This tutorial details how study groups can be used to view finances or leave notes on a select group of studies together. It also details how to use timeline events and linked entities for quicker study set-up.
Cost Overview¶
Tip
The Cost Overview tab shows the finances for all studies in the group.
Comments¶
Tip
The Comments tab is a space for users to leave relevant notes about the study group.
Inherit Timeline Events¶
Tip
Studies that have been assigned to the group will inherit events that are set up on the groups Timeline tab.
The purpose is so all assigned studies get the same event with its planned date - this is quicker than adding the event to each study individually. It also ensures consistency across them.
1. 👆 Navigate to the Timeline tab.¶
2. 👆 Click "EDIT".¶
3. 👆 Click "Add Milestone".¶
4. ✍️ Enter the event name and select a planned date.¶
Tip
When the planned date or milestone name is updated in the study group, the changes are reflected on all inheriting studies.
5. 👆 Click "SAVE".¶
6. 👆 Go to the Studies tab 👉 Click a study from the list.¶
7. 👆 Navigate to the study's timeline tab.¶
Tip
The milestone will only be added to General study timelines (the default timeline that every study has).
8. 🥳 See that the new timeline event appears on the study.¶
Note that it cannot be edited in the study records.
Inherit Linked Entities¶
Tip
The linked entities in this study group are listed on the "Entities" tab. See Create Study Group With Linked Entities to learn how to set up linked entities in the group.
A study in this group can inherit linked entities if both following points apply;
- The study's constituent matches the constituent the entity is linked to
- The study has been added to the "Overridden Studies" field (see step 10).
9. 👆 Navigate to Costs 👉 Entities 👉 Click "EDIT".¶
10. 👆 Click the "Overridden Studies" field and choose a study from the dropdown list.¶
Only the studies selected in this field inherit the entity links in the table. Existing entity links on the study will be overwritten.
11. 👆 Click "SAVE".¶
12. 👆 Navigate to the study to see the linked entities.¶
13. 🥳 The linked entities are coming from the study group.¶
Tip
"Inherit from Group" can also be set up from the study record by clicking "EDIT" 👉 "Inherit from Group".
